We get to the end of Tales from the Loop Season 1. It’s an episode that certainly leaves some haunting and heartbreaking moments, and here’s a look at the events of the episode.
For this episode, you certainly want to check out Episode 2 first. You may also want to watch Episode 5, but it’s not necessary. You’ll also want to watch Episode 7 to know who “the first” is, but, again, it’s not necessary. The episode involving the body switch is the most important of the lot.

Tales from the Loop Episode 8 focuses on Cole. With Jakob/Danny now working at The Loop, he’s moved out of the house. Cole isn’t used to not having his brother around. when he goes to see his brother, Danny finally shares the truth about the events with the body switch. He also tells Cole where the real Jakob is.
Cole heads off to the woods to find Jakob. They can go to Loretta. She’ll be able to fix the problem, won’t she?
If only it was that simple. On the way to the city where Loretta is right now, Cole and Robot Jakob are attacked by another robot. robot Jakob wins the fight, but he’s damaged. With a broken leg that Cole can’t fix, Jakob dies in the woods. Cole decides to head back home. Well, he goes to The Loop.
When Loretta comes out of the Loop, she’s got grey hair. It’s clear that decades have passed, something that was hinted at with the thawing and freezing of the stream.
We get a look back at everything Loretta went through. Danny told her the truth, she found the dead Robot Jakob in the middle of the woods, her mother-in-law died, and then George died. Everyone has passed on and Cole is still the child that he was. Loretta isn’t all that surprised Cole is back, saying that it’s because he crossed the stream when it had thawed.
A grown-up Danny visits Cole, sharing that he now has a daughter. Loretta just watches from the window.
Cole goes back to school, where his teacher hasn’t aged at all. remember in Episode 7 when Klara told George that “it” was “the first?” Well, there was a second. Cole’s teacher was one of Russ’s creations, giving Cole someone he recognizes and someone to help him going forward.
As he unpacks boxes and finds his camera that he’d been using during the start of the episode. He gets a photo of Loretta crying as she admits that she missed Cole “more than anything” when he was gone. Through the lens of the camera, he sees a young Loretta for a second.
At the very end, Cole heads to The Loop and climbs to the top of the middle tower, a tower Klara had told him she thought she’d seen someone walking on. We flash to decades in the future with a grown-up Cole and his own family, but still on the rooftop is a young Cole taking photos.
The episode leaves us on a somber note. Science fiction seems like something that will solve all our problems. How many of us have dreamed of time travel? And yet, Tales from the Loop gives us eight heartbreaking, emotional stories to reconsider science fiction.
