Despite the SAG-AFTRA strike, we got confirmation that The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 would happen. What else do we know about the season?

The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 is officially happening. The renewal was made clear during the strike, but that decision came before the strike started. Work can now start on the season, although it’s not clear exactly when the season will premiere just yet.

What do we know about the third season? Here’s everything so far, with updates to come as they happen.

When will The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 premiere on Prime Video?

The two previous seasons premiered in the summer of 2022 and 2023 respectively. There is the potential of a release for Season 3 in late summer 2024, but it will be a push due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes this year.

We may need to wait until fall next year. Amazon hasn’t commented on this just yet.

How many episodes will be in Season 3 of The Summer I Turned Pretty?

We’re expecting eight episodes to the season to match the previous two seasons. The first season came out as a binge-watch, but the second season got a weekly release. We’ll likely see the latter with the third season as that release format has proven successful with a lot of shows.

Who will return for The Summer I Turned Pretty’s third season?

We’re sure to see the majority of the cast from the second season. That includes:

  • Lola Tung as Belly
  • Christopher Briney as Conrad
  • Gavin Casalegno as Jeremiah
  • Sean Kaufman as Steven
  • Jackie Chung as Laurel
  • Rain Spencer as Taylor

It’s not clear if Kyra Sedgwick and Elsie Fisher will return as Julia and Skye respectively, but we can hope we’ll see more of them considering the way their relationship with the Fisher brothers ended in Season 2.

While Rachel Blanchard returned as Susannah in the second season through flashbacks, there’s no need for something like that to happen with the third season. The flashbacks were a way to deal with the grief and loss to allow us to understand the character development with Susannah’s death.

Which book is The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 based on?

While Amazon has yet to officially confirm that the third season will be based on the third book, this is most likely the case. After all, the first two seasons were based on the first two books respectively.

The third book is titled We’ll Always Have Summer. The announcement trailer suggests the season will follow the third book.

What can we expect in the third season of Summer?

We can work with the third book to get an idea of what to expect in the third season. The second season ended with Conrad stepping away from the love triangle. Belly chose Jeremiah, and Conrad gave his blessing to the two of them.

The books follow the same storyline. In the third book, we have a bit of a time jump that involves Jeremiah and Belly attempting to make their relationship work. However, Jeremiah cheats on Belly and has to figure out how to rectify that “mistake.” Of course, it leads to him proposing and the two plan their wedding.

Does that lead to a wedding? You’ll need to read the book to find out. We don’t want to give away spoilers here. Plus, we don’t know if the third season will follow that storyline in full.

The second season gave us flashbacks to cover Susannah’s death. The third season could offer some flashbacks of Jeremiah and Belly’s relationship to see how they got to the point they are at the start of the season.
