Amazon Prime Video is continuing its development of popular book series. The latest is the Alex Cross series, and here’s all we know so far.

First it was Jack Ryan and then we learned Jack Reacher was finally being adapted by Amazon Prime Video. Now the service is bringing an Alex Cross series. What do we know about it so far?

Based on the novel series by James Patterson, the series is being developed for TV. It will follow the lead character, as he and his family face threats throughout city of Washington, D.C., due to his position as a Metropolitan Police Department detective. And he’s extremely good at his job.

There are currently 29 books in the series, but Patterson hasn’t finished writing them just yet. Deadline says that we don’t know which books are being developed so far. However, my gut tells me that the first book is a logical place to start. It would be the introduction of the character, after all. Of course, the series could take a Bosch direction and just loosely base the series on some of the books.

Amazon Studios will develop the series with Paramount Television Studios and Skydance Television. Recognize the names? Yes, they all work together on the Jack Ryan series and they will work together on Jack Reacher. It’s making for some excellent TV crime dramas and spy thrillers.

There have been two movie adaptations so far with Morgan Freeman and Tyler Perry playing the titular role. Nobody has been named as Alex Cross in the newest series.

The good news for fans of the books is that James Patterson will be involved in the production of the series, as one of the executive producers. He’ll be joined by Bill Robinson, David Ellison, Marcy Ross, and Dana Goldberg, according to Variety.

So far, this isn’t a full greenlight for the series. At this stage, the project has only just been confirmed, but with the success of Jack Ryan and now the Jack Reacher series on the cards, it’s highly likely that the Alex Cross series will get a straight-to-series order.
