The Lord of the Rings gets Game of Thrones star as Will Poulter’s replacement
The Lord of the Rings has landed another Game of Thrones star. Robert Aramayo joins the cast as Midsommar’s Will Poulter exits the project.
Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings has a new lead actor. Midsommar‘s Will Poulter has had to exit the project, leading to a Game of Thrones star landing the lead role. Robert Aramayo will now play Beldor in the series, set to be a prequel to the movies.
Fans of Game of Thrones will know Aramayo as the young Ned Stark (the older version played by Sean Bean) during the flashback scenes. He appeared in four episodes between 2016 and 2017, starting with “Oathbreaker.” He was also in an episode of Mindhunter Season 2 and the mini-series Harley and the Davidsons, where he played Bill Harley.

Deadline reports Aramayo will replace Will Poulter, the Midsommar actor who landed the lead role last year. Due to a change in schedule, he’s had to walk away from the project, leading to hiring a new leading man. The good news is that the change of lead comes with plenty of time to refilm the first couple of episodes.
When Amazon renewed The Lord of the Rings for a second season in November 2019, it came with the announcement that the show would go on a brief hiatus. The first two episodes would need to be looked at and assessed for the writing of the second season. Now there’s a change of schedule, some scenes will need reshooting.
Aramayo isn’t the only former Game of Thrones actor on The Lord of the Rings. Joseph Mawle joined the cast of the Amazon series last year.
