Amazon’s Lord of the Rings locks in Game of Thrones alum
Amazon’s Lord of the Rings series has just added a new cast member. Game of Thrones alum, Joseph Mawle, is joining the cast.
Amazon is remaining tight-lipped about its upcoming Original, Lord of the Rings. The TV series is one of the most anticipated Originals coming soon, but so far we only know of two cast members. That’s changed today with another familiar face being added to the list of the cast.
Lord of the Rings has landed Game of Thrones alum, Joseph Mawle, to the cast list. We have absolutely no idea who he will play—this project is as secretive as possible—but at least we have some sort of idea of actor, right?

One thing we know about Mawle is that he’s great as a villain and a good guy. Many fell in love with him as Benjen Stark in Game of Thrones, but he also took on the quite dastardly role of Inspector Jedediah Shine in Ripper Street. So, friend or foe to lead actors Will Poulter (he’ll play Beldor) and Markella Kavenagh (she’ll play Tyra)?
Right now, Deadline reports that the theories are that Mawle will take on the role of the lead villain named Oren. These theories haven’t been confirmed yet and it’s possible that we’ll hear nothing until much closer to the time of release.
Lord of the Rings only wants the best actors to take on the various roles. Casting is taking place around the world to ensure the series succeeds. After all, there’s a lot riding on it to turn it into the next Game of Thrones, right?
All we know about the series right now is that it will be a prequel to The Fellowship of the Ring. It’s set centuries before, and reportedly sometime during the Second Age.
