Amazon’s Lord of the Rings TV series is shrouded in mystery. However, we do know that it’s found its director. J.A. Bayona has joined the team.

While we still know very little about the upcoming Lord of the Rings TV series on Amazon Prime, we do have a little extra news. J.A. Bayona has joined the team as the director of the series.

Deadline reported the news exclusively yesterday. It’s certainly an exciting addition. Fans will know him from works like Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, The Orphanage (his first feature film), and the first two episodes of Penny Dreadful.

We know very little about Lord of the Rings series. Right now, all we know is that it will be an adaptation of the J.R.R. Tolkien novels and will follow the storylines before The Fellowship of the Ring. Bayona is set to direct the first two episodes, setting the tone and direction for the rest of the series. If his work on the first two episodes of Penny Dreadful is anything to judge, there’s no need to worry!

Bayona is excited about joining the series, too. These stories never have been told before, allowing fans to Middle Earth to explore the “wonders of the Second Age.” It will delve deeper into the fantasy world already created by the books and adapted for the movies.

And Bayona isn’t just getting director credit. He’s also joined as an executive producer on the series, along with his producing partner Belén Atienza.

We already know there’s a vastly talented writers room, including The Lord of the Rings writers JD Payne and Patrick McKay, Game of Thrones writer Bryan Cogman, and Breaking Bad writer Gennifer Hutchinson.
