The man who brought Lord of the Rings to the big screen, Peter Jackson, won’t be a part of bringing it to the small screen for Amazon.

There were several rumors flying around the internet about the involvement of Peter Jackson in the upcoming Lord of the Rings series for Amazon. There were reports of his potential involvement as a producer for the TV adaptation but the man who directed The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit movies confirmed he will not be a part of the Amazon production.

This is what I presumed all along. We’re still waiting to get several details about the show about who will write it, who will direct, who will produce, who will star and if the Young Aragorn storyline is indeed what the first season will be about. But all along, I felt Jackson wouldn’t be a part of it. Simply, he’s been there and done that and I didn’t think he would want to get involved with the TV production.

It’s totally fine and I don’t think this is bad news for the show that is slated to be the most expensive show ever made. He also shot down rumors he was going to be making a DC superhero movie next.

"“I’m not involved at all in the Lord of the Rings series,” Jackson told the French publication Allocine. “I understand how my name could come up, but there is nothing happening with me on this project.” The Mortal Engines producer also clarified that he’s had no discussions with DC about making a superhero movie. “That’s not true. I had no discussions about that,” he said. “I’m not a fan of comics, I’ve never read any, so I’m not particularly interested in adapting one for cinema. That’s not true at all. I’m not involved in any DC film or Lord of the Rings series but I’m ok with it, I have plenty other projects that keep me busy.”"

I think this is actually good for the Amazon series to start fresh to avoid comparisons to the movie trilogy. To be fair, it’ll be largely impossible to avoid being compared to the overwhelming success that was the movie trilogy, but having Jackson attached would have made meeting expectations of the fan base an uphill battle.

I’m awfully excited about the Lord of the Rings series and while there’s still plenty of details to be fleshed out, I can’t wait to see it all come together and, of course, for it to be on Amazon, most likely in 2019.
