American Gods renewed for Season 3: Who’s the new showrunner?
Last month, STARZ made it clear that American Gods Season 3 was on the cards. Now the show has found a new showrunner and the third season has been confirmed. Here are all the details.
STARZ had already made it clear that American Gods Season 3 was likely happening. There were two things that had to happen: the ratings needed to be good and the show needed to find the right showrunner. Both of those have come true and now the third season is confirmed.
Charles “Chic” Eglee is the new showrunner of the series. He’ll be the third person to hold that title, with Bryan Fuller and Michael Green stepping down after the first season and Jesse Alexander leaving after the second season finished production. Finding another showrunner quickly was extremely important, as fans had already disliked the almost two-year wait for Season 2.

It looks like the show has suffered because of the wait, too. Live + Same Day ratings saw a 27% drop in terms of the total audience and a 42% drop in the demo. However, these ratings don’t include the views through the STARZ app, which many people who watch the series subscribe through. It also doesn’t include the views through Amazon Prime Video internationally.
Considering the third season renewal has come just after one episode (and was already talked about before this), it suggests that all the ratings are good enough. Plus, with the Live + Same Day ratings, the show is still third out of all STARZ shows.
Show EP, and author of the novel of the same name, Neil Gaiman is excited to work with Chic. One thing Ian McShane had previously mentioned was that the second season was being pulled back to the book and it sounds like this is the focus for the third season, too.
Chic hasn’t been involved in much in more recent years, with his last EP credit being listed for Mission Control. However, he has been involved in a number of genre shows, including Netflix’s Hemlock Grove and Dark Angel. He was also EP on NYPD Blue, The Sheild, and much more. Check out his full IMDb listing.
With new showrunner and renewal happening now, it’s good news for fans. Production can start right away, which should mean no two-year wait for American Gods Season 3.
