Small Axe: Lovers Rock is coming to Amazon Prime Video tonight

Lovers Rock is the second of five Small Axe movies on Amazon Prime Video

After an excellent start to the limited series with Mangrove, the second of five movies in the Small Axe anthology is on Amazon Prime Video tonight.

It’s all about Lovers Rock. Like the previous movie, you’ll be able to watch it from midnight in your local area on Amazon Prime Video. Some areas may get it slightly earlier to time with midnight EST, but there’s no guarantee of that.

This movie stars Michael Ward, Amarah-Jae St. Aubyn, Kedar Williams-Stirling, Saniqua Okwok, Ellis George, and many more big names. It’s directed by Steve McQueen, just like all other Small Axe movies.

What is Lovers Rock about?

Lovers Rock is set in the 1980s. It all starts with a house party, which is where people meet and relationships get started. This is a story of Black love and an important one that needs to be told. There are all types of love shown throughout judging by the trailer alone. Of course, that doesn’t mean everyone gets a happy ending.

You may thing the title “Lovers Rock” has an apostophe missing. That’s not the case. It’s not “Lover’s Rock” but an ode to the reggae genre. This is all about the Black youths who found freedom through love, while also including many songs you’re not going to be able to get out of your head.

It’s slightly more upbeat and light-hearted compared to Mangrove. You’ll still want to get ready for some potential heartbreak as it focuses on life in 1980s London.
