The first Small Axe movie is called Mangrove and is on Amazon in a few hours

Steve McQueen is back in action, bringing the limited series Small Axe. The first movie in the collection airs tonight on Amazon Prime Video.

The first movie is titled “Mangrove,” and stars Letitia Wright, Shaun Parkes, Rochenda Sandall, and Jack Lowden. You’ll be able to watch it from midnight local at the latest on Amazon Prime Video. There is the possibility of an earlier release, but this isn’t a global original. The movies have already aired in the UK.

Whatever time, it’s going to be worth the wait. There are five movies in the collection, and they will air every Friday until Dec. 18.

This is billed as a limited series. There are no plans to continue the stories after this. While the movies connect in terms of location and overall theme, this is an anthology series, so you don’t need to watch them in order.

What is Mangrove about?

“Mangrove” is the title given due to the focus of this movie. It’s about The Mangrove Nine, a group of Black people who clashed with the London police. Set in 1970, the story follows the trial that would become the first judicial proof that racial hatred motivated action by the police.

It’s an extremely topic right now. We get a look at while some things have changed, there is still a lot that needs to change in terms of police and systemic racism.

Don’t forget to tune into the Amazon Original category for a recap and review of the movie after it has dropped.
