Carnival Row Season 2 can’t resume filming yet, pushing the release back

There’s some bad news for those of us waiting for Carnival Row Season 2. It’s looking like we’re waiting until late 2021 for the show to be released.

Back in March, the series was one of those shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic. While countries are starting to open up, filming can’t resume just yet. Cinema Blend found a snippet of an interview Cara Delevingne did with Variety where she shared that filming has to happen in winter.

The show needs snow and miserable weather. So, even if filming could resume right now, the summer weather in Eastern Europe isn’t right. Production will need to wait for the fall at the earliest but probably winter.

That means a delay in when we’ll get it. It usually takes eight to 10 days to film one episode of a TV series. That’s for broadcast, but it would likely follow the same rules for streaming shows. Then there’s the post-production work that goes into it all afterward, and there is plenty of CGI needed for Carnival Row.

How much is already complete?

The exact time to the release will depend on the number of episodes completed so far. Delevingne has filmed six out of eight episodes, so that offers some good news.

It sounds like there are just on the final episodes. Of course, just because Delevingne is done with six episodes doesn’t mean everyone else is. There may be a few others who still need to finish up Episode 6.

There’s the post-production work after that. It’s possible that the post-production work for the first six episodes has been completed at home. A lot of the post-production work for other shows was done virtually. While it took a little longer, it was still possible.

That would leave just the post-production work for the scenes and episodes that still need to be filmed. We’re looking at a few months of work, there.

I’d guess that summer 2021 is the earliest Carnival Row Season 2 could be released. However, we could be looking at later in the year.
