It’s time for Nathan’s funeral during Upload Season 1, Episode 3. Nora realizes there may be more to Nathan’s death. Here’s a recap of the episode.
Upload Season 1, Episode 3 sees the murder mystery continue, as Nathan goes to his own funeral. What exactly happened during the episode?
Coming in at 26 minutes, this is the shortest episode so far. That doesn’t mean it’s devoid of story or humor. The funeral brings some of Nathan’s greatest moments but also some home truths. People are moving on, Nathan realizes he didn’t fully accomplish his dreams (and now can’t), and he realizes that people don’t have a lot to say about him.

Throughout the episode, Nathan focuses on what he doesn’t have. It doesn’t help that an argument with Ingrid almost leads to him being deleted. She controls everything, which puts him in an extremely dangerous situation in the afterlife. This is something that will come up in later episodes.
Meanwhile, he learns that Jamie decided not to come to his funeral. Nathan hasn’t been able to reach Jamie since dying, and it sounds like Jamie is resentful of something. There wasn’t a lot of money for Nathan’s family from the business, which Nathan’s mom hints at being something linked to Jamie. There’s much more to this story but does it link to the murder mystery plot?
Nora attends the funeral from New York, where she talks to a group of Nathan’s exes. They all have good things to say about Nathan to Nora. There’s hope for a friendship here, but Nora has something bigger to focus on.
Nora is sure that there’s something fishy going on. She decides to make a call to the company that Nathan and Jamie had reached out to. The guy at the company had no idea Nathan was dead, but mentions that one of them didn’t want the company to invest. He doesn’t go into more detail, which may be linked to a NDA but it may also be linked to whoever killed Nathan.
Nora clearly believes there’s something more to Nathan’s death. How far will she go to investigate?
Speaking of investigations, though, we see Fran again at Nathan’s funeral. Fran (who we find out is Nathan’s cousin) knows there’s something suspicious and accuses Ingrid. In fact, Fran points out that the hospital vitals show that Nathan could have possibly survived the operation. Did Ingrid cause Nathan’s death to have him in the afterlife permanently?
As a side story, we also find out that the world’s first digital download is happening. This is someone in the digital afterlife being put back into a clone body. There’s hope for Nathan, but it turns out to be a failure. After four minutes, things go wrong in the clone and his head explodes. It looks like it will be a while before Nathan can be downloaded.
