11 Amazon Originals heading to Amazon Prime Video in January 2020
It’s not just a new month, but a new year and a new decade. Amazon is starting it right with 11 new Amazon Originals coming in January 2020.
We’re not just heading into a new month. We’ve started a new year; a new decade. Amazon wants to start it off just right with the new TV shows and movies heading our way. There are 11 Amazon Originals on Prime Video in January 2020, and it’s time to get ready for them.
These originals cover a variety of topics and genres. There are plenty of comedy specials, but you can also watch a feel-good, underdog story and check out the story of Ted Bundy told through the eyes of the women around him.
All 11 are listed here with a brief description of what to expect. We’ve listed them in order of release, although one is still to get a U.S. release date.
The Forgotten Army Season 1
We’ll start with the original that doesn’t have a U.S. release date, yet. This Indian Prime Original is a miniseries, so don’t expect a second season. However, nothing is known about this. There’s not even a plot listed on the IMDb page. So, this is going to be an interesting release.
Bug Diaries Season 1B
Did your kids love Bug Diaries Season 1A? Well, if they’re currently watching the episodes on repeat, there’s some great news! The second half of the season is on its way. The kids can continue watching the adventures of Fly, Worm, and Spider, three very unlikely friends who get up to many adventures in the big world around them.
Bug Diaries Season 1B will be available on Jan. 3.
James May: Our Man In Japan Season 1
We’re used to seeing James May with his two Grand Tour sidekicks, but he’s heading off on an adventure on his own for one of the Amazon Originals this month. May is heading to Japan, where he learns more about the food, the traditional dress, the music, the technology, and the language.
You can join him on his latest adventure on Jan. 3.

Looking for a comedy special? There are a few standup Amazon Originals heading our way this month. The first of those is Jayde Adams: Serious Black Jumper. This award-winning, Bristolian comedian isn’t afraid to say things like it is. Her topic of choice is…feminism, but nothing like you would usually expect.
Jayde Adams: Serious Black Jumper is heading to Amazon Prime Video on Jan. 3.
Ilana Glazer: The Planet Is Burning
It’s time to give a new comedian a chance. Ilana Glazer is bringing her first-ever standup special after a decade on Broad City, and it’s one that you won’t want to miss out on. This is a down-to-earth routine, focusing on marriage and other “adult-y” things. She’s trying to figure herself out just like us, and that’s what makes this so brilliant.
Watch Ilana Glazer: The Planet Is Burning on Jan. 3 on Amazon Prime Video.
Troop Zero
Need a great movie? Look no further than Amazon this month. Troop Zero is heading out way, which means plenty of laughs in a story that has us rooting for the underdogs. All a young girl wants is to communicate with space. Is that too much to ask?
You’re waiting until Jan. 17 for this Amazon Originals movie.
Just Add Magic: Mystery City Season 1
Your kids have loved Just Add Magic. Now it’s time for a spin-off. Mystery City takes everyone on a whole new adventure in Bay City. The cookbook is moving onto new protectors, step-siblings Zeoe and Leo and their neighbor Ish. The three have something unique to bring to the protective circle and they’re ready for the historical adventure.
Just Add Magic: Mystery City will be available on Jan. 17.
Russell Peters: Deported
There are plenty of comedy Amazon Originals heading your way and Russell Peters: Deported is next on our list. Russell looks at his life in his middle ages, dealing with the various health issues and relationships that come with that. And, of course, there’s a touch on fatherhood. While this is the first standup special with Amazon, it’s his sixth overall, so we have plenty of confidence that this is going to be amazingly hilarious.
Watch Russel Peters: Deported on Jan. 17.
Rob Delaney: Jackie
Need more comedy? You got it! Rob Delaney is doing a standup special hot off the back of the Catastrophe finale. This time, we’re looking at the joys of parenthood (and the strangest things that kids do). There’s also an interesting sketch involving “is Pepsi okay?”
Check out the standup special on Jan. 17.
All Or Nothing: CBF Season 1
If you’ve loved All Or Nothing focused on the UK soccer teams and the U.S. football teams, then you’re going to want to pay attention to one of the Amazon Originals at the end of the month. All or Nothing: CBF is heading our way. This is a look behind the scenes of the Brazilian Football Confederation, which is certainly going to be intriguing to all the soccer fans out there.
All or Nothing: CBF will head to Prime on Jan. 31.
Ted Bundy: Falling For A Killer Season 1
Finally, we’re taking another look at the life of Ted Bundy. All previous documentaries have been told by men. The fictionalized events have been adapted from the male stories. Now it’s time to hear everything from a female’s point of view. What made him so irresistible and why were women so certain he wasn’t the woman-hated he turned out to be?
Check out the five-part documentary on Jan. 31.
