Amazon continues to grow its movie slate through festival acquisitions. The latest is Boyz in the Wood, which continues its festival slate into 2020. What do we know about the acquisition so far?
Firstly, what is Boyz in the Wood about? Set deep in the Scottish Highlands, it’s a story of growing up and experiencing the culture. it’s about a bunch of hip-hop loving farmers and generational politics, with music from Danny Brown, Run the Jewels, and much more. It’s going to be a completely brash and crazed movie that is perfect for those who love to immerse themselves into Scottish history and culture.

Boyz in the Wood already has rave critical reviews after opening at SXSW back in March 2019. It’s continued the positivity at the Lund International Fantastic Film Fest, and the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival. It still has its run in Rotterdam to come.
The movie, which was filming in Scotland—and usually in the rain—brings the DJ Beatroot fan club to life. it’s a story of friendship, but also of courage and that need to change the world. It’s certainly going to light some fires.
Amazon has acquired the worldwide rights, which means Boyz in the Wood will come to Amazon Prime Video internationally. This may not happen on the same date, and we don’t even have a U.S. release date yet, but the entire 200 countries and territories will get the chance to experience this bonkers story. The release will likely be sometime next year.
The release is exclusive to Prime Video. It doesn’t sound like it’s getting a theatrical run, but that could change. After all, look at all the changes that happened to The Aeronauts.
