Amazon is set to create a documentary about Mary J. Blige

Amazon is set to produce a documentary film about singer and actress Mary J. Blige. Creators will collaborate with eOne on the project.
Mary J. Blige is a legendary icon from the hip-hop community and she’ll finally be part of an exclusive documentary feature to be released on Amazon Prime Video. The documentary will be executive produced by Sean Combs. Vanessa Roth, an award-winning filmmaker, will direct the project. At the moment the documentary is untitled.
Not only will the documentary follow the hardships Blige has faced throughout her life, but it will also follow the singer as she heads out on tour to perform her second studio album, “My Life.” This will be the first time Mary J. Blige has performed the album live and the new tour will celebrate its 25th anniversary.

Mary J. Blige has been in the industry for decades now and cemented her status as an iconic musical figure. She has won nine Grammy Awards thus far in addition to being nominated for two Oscars, one for Best Supporting Actress and another for Best Original Song. “My Life” has been ranked as one of the best albums of all time by multiple publications.
In the press release from Amazon, the co-head of Amazon Studios’ movies department discussed his excitement about the project.
"“We all know Mary J. Blige as the two-time Oscar nominee, Grammy Award winning, multi-hyphenate who has sold over 80 million records. But through this documentary, audiences will see a raw and honest side of Mary J. Blige opening up about her personal journey of redemption and healing.”"
This year, Blige was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award for her impact on the musical industry at the BET Awards. She also starred in the Netflix series The Umbrella Academy released earlier this year.
Blige is a trailblazer in the industry and renowned for her legacy and impact on both the culture and music. A documentary feature following her life’s journey is a notable achievement and acquisition for Amazon Studios.
