Modern Love breaks the Amazon anthology series curse
Less than a week after its release, Amazon has already renewed Modern Love for a second season. It breaks the curse of previous anthology shows.
Modern Love debuted last week to high praise. We’re still waiting on Anne Hathaway being nominated for an Emmy, but hey, it’s not quite Emmy nomination season just yet. We can wait. What we’re not waiting for is news about the renewal.
Less than a week after the release of the first season, the half-hour anthology series has beat the curse of all those anthology shows that came before it. Electric Dreams and The Romanoffs faced cancellation after just one season, but that most definitely wasn’t the case for Modern Love.

Based on the New York Times column of the same name, the series told stories of love in all its forms. Whether it was an elderly couple finding love or a gay couple going through an open adoption, we got to see love in its rawest forms.
The show debuted to high praise immediately on social media. That led us to hope that the series would be renewed. We didn’t quite think it would happen this quickly, but we’re certainly glad to see that it has. It’s certainly well deserved.
Along with the news of the renewal, the show’s EP, John Carney, has inked an overall deal with Amazon Studios. He’ll stick around for the second season, but does that mean we’ll see the actors, too? Probably not. It doesn’t sound like this will be an anthology like American Horror Story where the same actors return for different roles. However, you never know!
So far, there’s no release date, but there is a rough guide. According to Deadline, Modern Love Season 2 will debut in 2020. Not long to wait!
