All eyes are on the future of Modern Love right now. Amazon’s latest attempt at an anthology series was released last week. Now everyone wants to know whether it will be renewed for a second season.
It’s hard to say right now. Like The Romanoffs, Modern Love has a high-profile cast and great team behind it. But that doesn’t mean everything falls into place. You just have to look at the ratings on IMDb for each of the episodes compared to the ratings for each episode of The Romanoffs to see that viewers have mixed opinions about the individual episodes.

One of the benefits of Modern Love is that it’s aimed at a very different audience. While The Romanoffs felt pushed more towards those who loved Mad Men, Modern Love is aimed towards those who love rom-coms.
Really, Modern Love needs to be compared to Forever more than The Romanoffs. After all, the one-and-done comedy did have a focus more on the romance, on life, and on love. While it failed, that may have been more due to promotion than anything else. We went into Forever only really knowing of the first episode and the series quickly turned into something beautifully different. Modern Love has been clear from the start.
When you look at Twitter, Modern Love has garnered a lot of praise. It’s certainly aimed mostly towards women, and that’s not necessarily a bag thing. We need something that gives us hope in love and gives us some feel-good storylines with excellent acting, and that’s exactly what this series has done. It deserves a second season just based on that.
If the show is going to be renewed, we’ll likely hear about it within the next couple of month. Otherwise, it’s fair to say that it’s likely been quietly canceled.
