Did Alma save her dad on Undone Season 1?

Alma went on a time-bending journey to save her father. Was it something she succeeded at? Did she change the timeline in Undone Season 1?

Just in case you couldn’t tell from the title, there will be spoilers from the last minutes of the Undone Season 1 finale.

After eight episodes of watching Alma control her ability to bend time at will in Undone Season 1, she started to accept that maybe she was just mentally ill. Everyone around her believed it, but she just needed to see if everything that she’d done throughout the eight episodes were real or not. That meant waiting by the cave in Mexico in the hope of seeing her dad walk out.

You see, throughout the final episode, Alma found a way to save her dad. In fact, first of all, she learned the truth of what happened that night. The phone call about the emergency was actually because Alma’s mother had broken into her dad’s lab. She was looking for Alma because her dad had been experimenting on her without her mother’s consent.

That revelation led to the research student making it clear she was pulling the plug on the research. She’d share the full truth, but Alma’s dad couldn’t face that. Instead, he drove himself and the research student off the cliff, killing them both.

The ghost of Alma’s dad didn’t remember any of this. Was that because he genuinely didn’t remember or because Alma didn’t know and all this was in her head? We wouldn’t get any answers to this. What we did get was Alma convincing her dad to at least try to change history. She took him back to Halloween night, just before her dad left Alma on the streets to tend to the problem at work.

The astral form of her dad took over his body and decided to continue trick or treating with Alma. It was a beautiful end for Alma, but would that save her dad?

Alma could only find out by heading to the cave in Mexico. She needed to get there before the timelines aligned. However, worried about her daughter, Alma’s mother sent her sister, Becca, to check on her. The two sat at the cave overnight, waiting to see if their dad would walk out. When he didn’t, Alma started to wonder if she’d been mentally ill all this time.

Of course, nothing could be as simple (or really as depressing) as that. Alma needed a few minutes alone. With Becca gone, Alma watched to see if her dad would return to her. In the final seconds of Undone Season 1, she saw something.

We wouldn’t get to see exactly what it was, but could it be her dad? We need a second season of Undone to confirm this.
