The Boys Season 1 finale recap: Butcher learns the truth about his wife
It’s the climactic end to The Boys Season 1. Butcher learns the truth about his wife, Stillwell’s life is in danger, and Starlight makes a choice.
Starlight has to make a choice in The Boys Season 1 finale. Meanwhile, Butcher learns the truth about his wife and Stillwell finds herself and her child under threat. Here’s a look at the climactic ending to the first season.
Starlight deals with the truth
At the end of the last episode, Starlight learned that the Supes were created and not born with their powers. She decides to talk to her mom about it, who admits that she and her father allowed Starlight to be injected with Compound V. It was to pay for medical bills, but after a while, Starlight’s father couldn’t deal with the things that happened.

Now Starlight has somewhat of an identity crisis. Her family lied to her and she is still struggling with the idea that The Seven aren’t the good people they were. Queen Maeve helps cement the idea that the power and fame changed everything. Once Queen Maeve was good but everything that’s happened has turned her into the b***h she is now. But she doesn’t want the same thing to happen to Starlight.
So, when The Boys find themselves in danger at the hands of The Seven and Vought’s Army, Starlight is the one that steps in to help them. Everyone gets away, except for Hughie as A-Train shows up (who’s leg is fully recovered thanks to Compound V, but at the risk of his health and his relationship with his brother). Just as it looks like A-Train is going to kill Hughie, he has a heartache. Hughie can’t just leave A-Train and starts CPR, showing just how good he is.
Starlight takes over CPR, allowing Hughie to get away. Will A-Train live or die? We’ll have to wait and see.

Butcher turns to Mallory for help
We’d heard about Mallory in an earlier episode and now it’s time to meet her. In The Boys Season 1 finale, Butcher turns to Mallory for some guidance. He needs something that will knock Homelander down a peg or two.
Mallory makes it clear that the weird relationship with Stillwell is the weakness. She’s not in it enough to really matter overall, but she does show the life after going after Supes when it all goes wrong.
Homelander reveals the truth
At the start of the episode, Jim Beaver makes a cameo as the Secretary of Defense. He has to approve Supes in the Army. The world needs Supes now that there are supervillains out there.
How did the supervillains get made? Homelander has everything to do with that. He had A-Train run the Compound V everywhere to inject terrorists and create the supervillains to force the government to need Supes in the Army. It’s a dark plan but it certainly offers us more for the future.
Homelander threatens Stillwell
Butcher decides to strap some C4 to Stillwell. It’s a trick to get Homelander to show up, who certainly appears on cue, although puts Stillwell’s child at risk. You see, he’s angry now that he’s learned the full truth about Butcher’s wife.
Butcher’s plan doesn’t quite work. Homelander may have had mommy issues, but he’s angry about being lied to. So, he decides to burn Stillwell’s eyes out with his lasers. Well, that’s the end of that character and just has she got a promotion at Vought!
With nothing to live for, Butcher detonates the C4. The house explodes but we’re taken to Butcher waking up on a lawn. Homelander got the vigilante out because there’s something he wants Butcher to see.
Thought that there was more to Butcher’s wife? Of course, there was! Butcher wakes to see his wife, Becca, and a boy about seven or eight running out of a house. This blonde-haired boy stops in front of Homelander and now learns the truth that Homelander is his father.
In true Eric Kripke fashion (you’ll get that if you’ve seen Supernatural!) it all ends with a cliffhanger. I didn’t expect anything different.
