The Report coming to Amazon Prime Video in October

The Report will come to Amazon Prime Video later this year. Amazon Studios has already set the release date just weeks after the theatrical release.

The Report was one of Amazon’s major acquisitions of the year during the Sundance Film Festival. Last week, Amazon Studios announced the theatrical release date, making it clear that this movie should be considered for major awards. That release also included an Amazon Prime Video release.

The Report will be on Amazon Prime Video on Oct. 11. This is just two weeks after the release in theaters, showing that Amazon wants to reach as many eyeballs as possible. After all, the Prime release is slated to be global, according to Deadline.

Update: The Report‘s release date has since been changed to November!

This type of release is allowed by the Academy Awards. As long as it gets time in movie theaters, it’s allowed to be considered, which is something that happened with Netflix’s Roma last year, which won the Best Screenplay Adaptation Oscar during the 2019 ceremony.

Scott Z. Burns, who wrote and directed the movie, shares that the type of release helps it reach the “largest audience possible.” That was always the goal with a movie like The Report, which touches on the true story of one man learning the truth about the CIA’s secret torture program and wanting to see the report out in the public to hold everyone accountable for their actions.

This is just one of the latest movies from Amazon Studios heading to theaters before, eventually, coming to Amazon Prime Video. Late Night was recently released, with Brittany Runs a Marathon coming out in August and much more. However, Adam Driver’s movie is the only one that has a Prime Video release date confirmed at the moment.
