Amazon Studios was on fire during the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, acquiring a number of big projects. Brittany Runs a Marathon was one of those acquisitions, and it’s for worldwide rights. This is excellent news for those who want to watch it outside of the United States (Late Night was a big acquisition that’s U.S. only).
Now the release date has been set for Brittany Runs a Marathon. You’ll be able to watch it in theaters from Aug. 23, 2019. Hopefully, it’ll be the summer blockbuster that it deserves to be. After all, this is an inspirational movie based on a true story.

Brittany is a 27-year-old with no idea where she’s going in life. She’s tried to get jobs but all she ends up doing is partying with her friends. Now she needs to get her life back on track and her doctor wants her to lose 55lb. As Brittany points out, that’s the size of a Siberian Husky – my own husky is about that weight right now but he’s still growing.
However, she’s determined to prove to herself that she can do it. With diet and exercise – and the help of a new friend/love interest – she focuses on getting out there and getting fitter. Her goal? To run the New York Marathon. It’s a lofty goal but one that she’s determined to meet.
One thing that is great about this comedy is that it’s not about fat-shaming. It’s not about making a point that being overweight is bad. It’s about one woman finding herself, figuring out what she wants to do, and just being healthy. Yes, that involves losing weight but it also involves being happy within herself.
Based on its debut at Sundance Film Festival, the movie already has a 90% score on Rotten Tomatoes at the time of writing this.
