With the arrival of Poldark Season 4 on Amazon Prime Video, it’s time to give the show a place on the list of 50 best TV shows on the service.
There are many TV shows on Amazon Prime Video. Some are amazing, others aren’t so great. Poldark has been on the service for a few years but this is the first time it’s making its way to the 50 best TV shows on Amazon Prime Video. It’s only taken four seasons.

Poldark is one of those book adaptations that is loved by book-first and show-first/only fans alike. Instead of trying to stick to one book per season, it joins together a couple of books at a time to flesh out individual storylines in a way that only a TV show can. You fall for the characters on the screen, even if you didn’t quite enjoy them in the novels.
The show focuses on Capt. Ross Poldark, who returns home after the Revolutionary War in America. He has to adjust to the new norm, which involves trying to run the copper mine that has been left to him and attempting to get his land out of debt after his father died while he was away. Yes, he learns about his father’s death upon his return, so he deals with that while grieving.
While figuring things out, he meets Demelza, a woman who is beaten by her father. To give her a way out, he offers her a place to stay and work. You just know that relationship is going to turn into something more.
The Poldark Effect has been extremely good for Cornwall, which is where the series films and is set. It’s boosted tourism to the area, as fans go to the various filming locations, earning it an excellent spot on the list of 50 best TV shows on Amazon Prime Video.
