It’s the Friday before the Upfront Presentations from the primetime networks. Cancellations are coming in and The Passage is one of the first casualties. Should Amazon Prime Video saved The Passage from cancellation?

With the primetime networks sharing their schedules for fall 2019, the current slate of programming needs to be canceled or renewed. This is a day where there will be many casualties and The Passage on FOX is one of the first. Should Amazon Prime Video save The Passage?

I’ll take out the “will it” or “can it” questions for this post. Whether it could save the show isn’t that clear. With it being a FOX show, moving it to Hulu may be a better shout, but there are a lot of reasons why it should be saved by Amazon instead.

The Passage is one of those shows that I don’t think benefited from the weekly airing. Offering it as a binge would have likely prevented the ratings dropping each week. There were moments that were just so slow. In fact, for about three episodes I felt like we learned nothing new.

With an Amazon show, it would be available all at once. Plus, the story could be told over eight episodes instead of 13. That could have certainly made it flow better. And I do think this is what it needed.

The Passage had a lot of potential. The book trilogy is amazing so it should have translated well on screen. And the ending to the series opened up a wide range of storylines, while also leaving us with a ton of questions.

A show like The Passage would also have a good home among the other shows on Amazon Prime Video. I mean, this is the streaming service with The Man in the High Castle and The Expanse. With a wide range of crime dramas and hour-long dramedies, there’s plenty of room for a fantasy horror.

Plus, this show is based on a book trilogy. If Amazon wanted to keep the cost of production down, it could save it for two seasons to transform the two books left and end it there. At least then the story would be told!

Amazon should consider saving The Passage. Maybe it should have been put on the streaming service in the first place!
