The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 3 has just landed a new actor. This Is Us star Sterling K. Brown is joining the cast.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 3 is currently filming. Writing for later episodes will also still be happening since the production will want to keep as little time as possible between seasons. As this happens, new casting news is going to be shared and one of those tidbits involves a certain This Is Us star.

Sterling K. Brown is joining the production. He shared the marvelous news through his Twitter profile, in a video where he announced that a part has been written for him and he just couldn’t turn it down. While he may be in California right now, he’s heading east.

This doesn’t tell us much. We know that The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is usually filmed in New York. So, this could certainly be the place that Brown is heading for filming. However, there’s also the on-location filming happening for this season. With Midge going on tour, it means that production is moving for a few episodes and Miami is one of those locations.

Will Brown’s role be in New York or will it be one of the roles while on tour? It could certainly make sense to make it while she’s on tour. After all, she’s touring to open for Shy Baldwin, a black singer. There’s no getting around race for this series, as it’s set in the late 50s and moving into the early 60s for Season 3.

Since Shy is a black singer, it’s likely that he’d interact with other people of his color. This opens the world up to Midge, as she sees more people of color, learns more about them, and realizes that a lot of the stories she’s likely heard from the white people she knows are fabricated and awful. This tour is going to open her eyes to the world of entertainment and it looks like Sterling K. Brown may be part of that.

The news of the new casting comes off the back that The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel won’t be as long as the second season. It’s dropping down to eight episodes, putting it at the same length as the first season.
