Netflix finally unveiled the teaser and release date for Lucifer Season 4. If you were hoping to catch up on the season in the UK, you’ll need an Amazon Prime account instead of Netflix.

If you thought you were going to get the chance to watch Lucifer completely on Netflix in the UK, you will have found out today that it’s impossible. Netflix doesn’t have the rights to the first three seasons yet. They’re still held by Amazon Prime Video UK. What does this mean for Season 4?

Lucifer aired on FOX for its first three seasons. In the UK, Amazon had the rights to distribute the series and you could watch the episodes with your Prime membership. This agreement still stands now. It’s not clear how long it will last, but right now, you can only watch the Tom Ellis-led series in the UK through Prime Video.

This is despite Netflix saving the series after cancellation. In other parts of the world, Lucifer Seasons 1-3 are currently on Netflix. The streaming service also announced the release date of the 10-episode fourth season, which will be exclusive to Netflix around the world. Lucifer Season 4 is strictly a Netflix Original.

The first five episodes will be released, with a “midseason break” before the second half of the season is released. It helps to create suspense and eases those who have been used to watching weekly into the Netflix format.

It’s bad news for those in the UK right now. To be able to catch up or remind yourself of storylines before the fourth season, you’ll need to have a Prime account and then you’ll need a Netflix account to watch the newer season from May 8.

There’s a chance that the Amazon contract will expire after the May 8 release date. There was hope that it would be before the fourth season premiered, but it’s possible that the contract was for a year and the third season didn’t end until the middle of May, so we may be looking at the release in a little over a month’s time.
