It’s summer 1959 and time for a summer vacation on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. And that summer vacation is two months long. What does that mean for the family?

Midge and her family are off on a summer vacation in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 2, Episode 4. And yes, it’s the type of vacation you’ve seen in the movies. Everyone heads off to the same camp for two straight months, full of activities, swimsuit competitions, and so much more.

This is the first year as a divorcee and it shakes everything up for Midge. She’s not allowed to compete in the swimsuit competition (because she’s not quite a Mrs. even though she is) and plenty of former friends have decided to hang out with Joel instead of her.

And yes, Joel is there. He’s not around for the whole vacation but is going back and forth because he loves his kids. While his marriage may not have worked out, he’s a devoted father and Midge isn’t going to take that away from him. Plus, it’s clear that he and Midge are still very much in love with each other, which was picked up in the premiere.

Meanwhile, Rose tries to set Midge up with someone new. There’s a doctor who is looking for someone weird and you know Midge is that quirky woman he needs. Midge isn’t interested but does decide to get on the rowboats with the doc to make a point to their mothers that they’ve tried to get along. It’s not a good afternoon and just what Midge needed to get her mother off her back.

Yet, why do I get the feeling that there will be more between this doc and Midge? Why do I get the feeling that it’s going to be this relationship that makes Joel realize he can cope with being the butt of Midge’s jokes on stage? Could we find Midge in the middle of a love triangle without realizing?

And then we can’t forget about poor Abe. Throughout the vacation, he’s trying to get the best drinking schedule but each time he ends up as drunk as a skunk. Maybe by the end, he’ll realize that he can just enjoy a different drink each night.

What about Susie? Well, she’s not happy her only client is off on vacation for two months, so she heads up to see what the hoopla is all about. Pretending to be the plumber, she manages to wangle free food and a bed, while she attempts to get Midge a gig or two in the area.
