The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 2 premiere recap: Midge performs in Paris

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 2 is finally here. Everything has changed, especially when it comes to Rose and Abe.

After our long wait, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 2 is here. The premiere picked up where the Season 1 finale left us, following on from Midge’s success at the Gaslight Cafe.

It’s not just Midge’s life that’s changed, either. Rose and Abe have a few things to sort out and Joel’s life is in the air.

In case you missed it from the trailer, Midge is now working the phones. As you can expect, the altercation with Penny Pan at the department store led to her being fired. So, rather than wallow, she found another job and is impressing on the phones.

Meanwhile, Susie is running Midge’s PR. After the success at the Gaslight, Susie gets a call for Midge to perform in Philadelphia. There are also reporters wanting to write articles about her because of the success. All that would be great if Susie wasn’t stopped in the street by two thugs.

While they head to the place to take Susie, the three end up bonding. At one point she mentions her uncle who went missing after owing people money. They even offer to look for her uncle, but she refuses.

They also refuse to ruff her up, but give her a warning that there are others out there who will ruff her up. She needs to find a way to resolve the problem with Harry Drake.

Abe has a Rose emergency

While at work, Midge gets a call from Abe. He has an emergency and so Midge rushes straight home. When she realizes that her children are fine, Abe rushes in with news that Rose is gone. And she’s not just doing some shopping. Rose has moved to Paris.

So, the two head off to Paris to see Rose, who has a run-down apartment, a new life, and a dog who she dotes on considerable. This is Simone, and Rose is clearly avoiding topics until Midge finally pushes her. She clearly isn’t interested in coming home after everything that happened, but Midge calls her out on everything.

While in Paris, Midge finds a bar with drag queens performing. She soon finds herself on the stage doing a comedy act. Fortunately, there’s a woman from New York who speaks French and can translate for her.

It’s in this moment that she relives the aftermath of her comedy night in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 1 finale. Yes, she knows that Joel had seen her perform. When she catches up to him and apologizes for everything, he removes his wedding ring and gives it to her. It looks like he believes they are over. And that’s the story she ends her performance with.

Joel starts a new life

Then there’s Joel, who has to start a new life. After quitting his job, he needs to find something else to do. Of course, he also wants to get out of his parent’s house. While Abe and Midge are in Paris, though, Joel is looking after the children.

He also has a few things in his head to sort out, like whether he’s happy with Midge doing her comedy act. When Midge calls, she makes it clear that she wants to work things out. Joel makes it clear that he can’t be with her if she’s a comedian. He doesn’t want to be the butt of all her jokes but he also doesn’t want her to quit.

It’s a heartbreaking end to The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 2 premiere, but the only way is forward. So, here’s to another episode coming soon.
