Throughout the episode, we kept going back to Rose and Abe. Happy in Paris, they have the chance to reconnect and find something new to do in life. It’s beautiful but it can’t last forever. Abe has to go back to teaching.
So, what about Rose? Will they remain apart? The only reason Rose doesn’t want to go back is because she doesn’t feel needed. Abe fixes that by talking to his colleagues at Columbia. There’s a chance Rose can audit some of the classes there.
It’s just what Rose needed to hear. Oh, and Abe has signed them up for dance lessons. Things are on the up.
Joel and his dad become partners
Meanwhile, Joel needs to decide what to do next. Although, he’s more concerned with Midge living at her parents’ place and decides she should move out. I’m sure you can guess how Midge takes that.
After quitting his job, he’s struggling a little. While fixing a broken machine at his dad’s factory, he decides it’s time to take over running the place. After all, it could do with his and his former secretary’s (not Penny) help. The books are a mess, there are some dodgy loans, and there’s just a bunch of people who don’t work.
When Joel fires a couple of the guys, his dad makes it clear that the guys have to stay. Without the guys, their wives would leave and the wives are the best workers. You can’t blame Mr. Maisel for wanting to keep the guys on.
In the end, father and son decide that it’s time to work on the business. Oh, and they’ll buy their building to avoid the rents going on. Awesome!
Midge takes the stage
As for Midge, it’s time for her to take to a new stage. After routinely getting bumped by male comics and getting mustard down herself from a hot dog, she finally gets the chance to make people laugh. At first, she does her usual routine about herself and then turns it on the men who had been commenting about her all night.
The whole performance is a hit, except for with the guys who she’s picking on. The guy running the joint shouts at her for doing so and threatens with never inviting her back. But it’s the first paying gig and she was most definitely a success.
As for Susie, she’s out of Midge’s place now that her parents are back. The whole reason she was staying there was because of the two goons who came to ruffle her up a bit. Now she’s scared to stay at her own place. So, where does she go? The Gaslight Cafe, of course. We’ll have to find out what that’s about in the next episode.
