Amazon Prime Originals land ReFrame Stamp for Television recognition
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and Transparent are among the Amazon Prime Originals given the ReFrame Stamp for Television for gender parity.
It’s taken seven weeks but the industry coalition ReFrame and IMDbPro have found 62 programs that deserve the ReFrame Stamp for Television. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and Transparent are among a number of Amazon Prime Originals that have been honored for gender parity.
There is a huge difference between men and women in the TV and movie industry. Rather than shame the shows that don’t have a balance of the genders within their on- and off-screen employees, the ReFrame Stampe for Television is an aim to praise those that do.
It’s not surprising to see The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel has been awarded, but many other Amazon Prime Originals have also landed the award. And it’s not all about the adult shows. Kids’ programs like Just Add Magic and Dino Dana are on the list of shows honored, showing that Amazon Studios is supporting and nurturing this equality for viewers of a young age.

Only 62 out of 364 scripted programs that aired episodes between June 1, 2017 and May 31, 2018 have been awarded the stamp of approval. All have hired women (cis and those who identify as women) in at least four of the eight critical production areas. These include showrunners, producers, directors, writers, lead and season regulars, department heads and crew members.
If the shows have women of color in the critical positions, the shows received extra points. This isn’t just about gender equality but race equality.
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is made up of a strong female cast with Amy Sherman-Palladino as showrunner. In fact, Sherman-Palladino, lead actress Rachel Brosnahan, and season regular Alex Borstein have all won Emmys for the dramedy. There is a whole team of women in the background working on making this positive period-drama series.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 2 will drop on Amazon Prime Video on Dec. 5, 2018. The Transparent movie is currently in production.
