Lore Season 3: Should Aaron Mahnke narrate again?
Amazon’s Lore has proven that it’s impossible to please everyone. The narration has been part of the complaints. If Lore Season 3 happens, should Aaron Mahnke return as the narrator?
There was a huge difference between the first and second season of Amazon’s Lore. Aaron Mahnke didn’t return as the narrator of the series. If Lore Season 3 happens, the EPs will need to decide whether to bring the podcast creator back as narrator.
One thing the first two seasons of the horror anthology have proven is that you can’t please everyone. During the first season, there were complaints about Mahnke’s narration voice. In the second season, there were complaints that it wasn’t there.
This stems from the way people have found out about the series, mostly whether they’ve listened to the podcast or not. Most of the complaints about the lack of narration in the second season have been from fans of the podcast.

However, Lore on Amazon Prime Video needs to connect to the masses. While the podcast listeners may decide not to watch another season, those who tune into TV show only may find a third season without Mahnke’s narration more entertaining and easier to connect to. It’s going to depend on who Amazon and the EPs believe watches the show the most and who they want to connect to the most.
Personally, I think a mixture of narration and no narration would work. One of my favorite episodes of Lore Season 2 was “Hinterkaifeck.” I didn’t think it would, but I adored the ability to see the story through the inspectors’ eyes and thoughts. This was an episode without any narration at all. It was two officers discussing their thoughts and theories, with the murder storyline told through the characters.
“The Prague Clock” used a character to tell the tale as if he was telling the story to one of the other characters. This didn’t work as well for me. It was in this episode that I wished Aaron Mahnke’s narration was there instead.
If Lore Season 3 opts for more stories that aren’t on the podcast, maybe these are the ones that could use Mahnke’s voice and storytelling. It pulls these original episodes back to the podcast in a way while keeping show and podcast separate.
It will depend on story and it will definitely depend on the audience the EPs want to reach out to. If they want to connect to the podcast listeners, Aaron Mahnke’s voice will be needed. If the target audience is those who are show-only fans, then the narration isn’t going to work.
