The Boys is the latest superhero series coming to TV. Don’t expect it to be your regular superhero show. Eric Kripke and Evan Goldberg share just what they’re bringing to the universe.

Whether you’ve watched Arrow, Supergirl, The Gifted, or any of the superhero movies out there right now, they all have one thing in common. There are superheroes who will always fight the bad guys. While they have their powers, they’re also moral people. That’s not what The Boys will depict.

Based on the comic series of the same name, showrunners Eric Kripke and Evan Goldberg make it very clear that this is a series that aims to tell the truth. After all, those with superpowers would always end up becoming corrupt in some way. There’s going to be a part of them that gives into the fame and the celebrity lifestyle. It’s the case with the majority (certainly not all) of the 1%.

With the superheroes off the rails, someone needs to rein them in. This is where “The Boys” come in. They’re made up of a team of vigilantes. Some of them in the comics have powers, but that’s not the case in the Prime Original coming to the service next year.

During the NYCC 2018 interview, Kripke and Goldberg shared that their vigilantes were humans–just a ragtag team of men (and a woman) who have the sole task of bringing all the superheroes back in line. This helps to add that human element to the series, showing the David vs. Goliath type of fight.

In the interview, Kripke also shared what it was like coming back to directing after 10 years–the last time he directed was Supernatural Season 4’s “Lazarus Rising!” The showrunners also explain how they’re adapting the books. It’s not all about the vigilantes not having powers, but the stories will be deeper. This is where adaptations come into use since there’s more scope to tell deeper storylines in a TV show.

The Boys doesn’t have a release date yet. However, it did finally get its first trailer while at NYCC 2018 and we also have posters for both “The Boys” and “The Seven.”
