The Boys: Why it is already a must-watch series in 2019

As 2018 draws to a close, all our focus is shifting to what is coming in 2019 and The Boys is already a standout must-watch series.

In case you didn’t know about it, The Boys is a TV series coming to Amazon Prime in 2019 and although we have had nothing but a couple of posters and a promo trailer, it is already a standout, must watch TV series in 2019. Based on the comic book series of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, The Boys is being adapted and developed for TV by the likes of Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and Erick Kripke.

For everybody unfamiliar with the comic book series, The Boys is set in a world where superheroes are corrupt and dirty. They’re superhero dirty cops.

While adored and loved, the superheroes, known as “The Seven” are nothing but corrupt characters out to make as much money as possible. They are viewed as the 1% and need stopping, according to an interview between the showrunners and Amazon Adviser at NYCC.

This is where a group of vigilantes come in, informally known as “The Boys,” who aim to unmask and reveal the superheroes for who they really are. And how are they going to do that? By playing dirty.

So why is it a must watch for 2019?

Well, I don’t know about you, but I am superheroed out. I can’t do with another typical superhero franchise. No offense, Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, Marvel Risings, Marvels Runaways, Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Titans, etc, etc.

But it’s pretty much the same thing over and over again. The bad guy shows up, causes drama, good guy/lady/team stop them, random drama in-between to flush out the story. Essentially I have seen it all.

Whereas The Boys offers something new and unique. But not just a new superhero with different powers. Everything is different. The good guys are not good, the bad guys are not bad, the stories will all be different, the look and feel are already different, etc.

In an age where superhero shows and movies are spat out like two bunnies going at it, The Boys is an alternative many of us have needed for a very long time.

Plus it has Erik Kripke directing so it’s an instant success. Supernatural fans will attest to that.
