Neil Gaiman has landed an overall deal with Amazon Studios ahead of the release of Good Omens. And it’s that series you can thank for this.

Amazon Studios has landed another entertainment powerhouse in an exclusive deal. Good Omens and American Gods creator Neil Gaiman has landed an exclusive deal with the company, and it’s all because of the work on Good Omens.

The new series, which is based on a book that Gaiman wrote with Sir Terry Pratchett, will be out on Amazon Prime Video sometime in 2019. If you’re at NYCC, there’s a panel on Saturday at 10 a.m. ET to introduce you to the cast of the series, including Doctor Who‘s David Tennant, who plays Crowley. There’s also an exciting immersive experience.

Gaiman shared that it was working on Good Omens with Amazon Studios that helped him decide to take the exclusive deal. One thing he loved (and it’s something that other showrunners have said about Amazon) is that the studio wasn’t afraid to do things differently. Amazon isn’t afraid to take risks and try to be “unique and exciting.”

More from Amazon Originals

One of the benefits of being different is that the shows can be bigger and better. They’ll be like something nobody has ever seen, which is certainly important when you consider the books that Neil Gaiman has written.

The Forever showrunners also shared how Amazon was good at giving them complete creative control. They had the chance to try something new, such as the “Andre and Sarah” episode. This one episode was extremely risky for such a short season. The 30-minute episode was the sixth out of eight and featured none of the main cast until the very end when it was shown that June had watched the whole story play out.

It’s certainly going to be exciting to see Gaiman make use of this exclusive deal. American Gods on STARZ (also considered a Prime Original) has already been a success and there are high hopes for Good Omens already. Now it’s time to see what more the British author can bring to the table.
