Long Strange Trip, the new documentary about The Grateful Dead, is coming to Amazon Prime Video on June 2, according to an Amazon Studios press release.
Long Strange Trip is directed by Amir Bar-Lev and produced by Martin Scorsese. Those are the two big names behind the film, although there are a number of others involved as well, according to the release.
The film premiered at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival and was one of Amazon’s biggest acquisitions. At the time, we thought it would be a bit longer before we saw the film on Prime Video, but that is not the case.

According to the press release, Long Strange Trip is a rock-doc about the band The Grateful Dead and their fans during their rise in the 1960s, 70s, and 80s. The doc features behind-the-scenes footage, performances, and interviews with Jerry Garcia, other bandmates, and those close to the band during the time.
Up until today, we had not heard much at all about this documentary. It is great news that Prime Video is bolstering its stock of great documentaries. This film is sure to be a hit among music fans, especially those who were not alive during the Grateful Dead’s most popular years.
