If the movie isn’t available right away, it will be by midnight in your local timezone. For those who really want to see this, I’d check hourly to see if it’s available yet.

What is Uncle Frank about?

Uncle Frank stars Paul Bettany as the titular character. He’s a literary professor who is also hiding a secret from his family. He’s gay, and there’s no way his family would accept that.

When his father dies, he ends up on a road trip back home with his niece and his lover. This isn’t just a movie about grieving a man who made his life difficult. It’s also one about acceptance and love. Frank has accepted who he is personally, but he needs to accept it around his family, even if his family doesn’t accept him. And that’s much easier said than done.

It’s also worth bearing in mind that the movie is set in 1973. Gay marriage isn’t legal yet, nor is it even accepted.

Is Uncle Frank worth watching?

The movie screened at Sundance Film Festival 2020 earlier this year. Amazon quickly acquired the rights, knowing that this could be a major release on the platform.

So far, critics rate the movie 88% on Rotten Tomatoes. There are no audience votes just yet since the movie hasn’t been released yet.

For those who want a movie about love and acceptance, this is going to be worth checking out.
