The Expanse renewed for sixth and final season by Amazon
The Expanse Season 6 is happening, but it will be the last
There’s good and bad news for all fans of The Expanse. Amazon has officially renewed The Expanse Season 6, but it will be the final season.
TVLine reported the news of the renewal, which included one cast member wouldn’t return for the last season. Cas Anver is out, potentially linked to the sexual misconduct investigations earlier this year, although there is no official confirmation of that.

What does that mean for Alex during The Expanse Season 5? We’re still three weeks away from the premiere, and the season is getting a weekly release, so we may have to wait until February 2021 to find out all the information.

Time to write the ending The Expanse deserves
While The Expanse Season 6 being the last is disappointing, there is some good news that comes with it. This amazing sci-fi series that has captured the hearts of so many will now get the ending it deserves.
For those who only found the show because of Amazon, it was originally a SYFY series. After three seasons, it was abruptly canceled, leading to many fans crying out for a streaming service to save it. Amazon stepped in and picked up the fifth season ahead of The Expanse Season 4 debuting in 2019.
Now, The Expanse Season 6 comes ahead of the fifth season premiere. It allows fans to go into the series not fearing the Season 5 finale. There’s no fear of questions being left unanswered and characters’ endings being left open.
TV shows have struggled with series finales lately. Game of Thrones, Supernatural, and The 100 have all met with mixed reviews and disappointed fans. Hopefully, The Expanse Season 6 is just the ending everyone needs. With the time to write and deliver it, we have a lot of hope.
There’s no word on whether the sixth season will drop at once or as a weekly release. We’ll have to see how the weekly release fares for the fifth season to find out.
Production on the final season has a tentative start date of January 2021. However, we’ll have to see how the pandemic continues throughout the new year. No filming dates are set in stone just yet.
