Small Axe isn’t a global Amazon Original. This makes it a little harder to figure out the release time. Global originals drop at midnight GMT, which means an earlier release date in North American based on time zones.
With a North America-only release, the drop is likely to happen at midnight ET. This could mean a slightly earlier release in later parts of the U.S. due to time zones, but there’s no guarantee of that. If the series doesn’t drop early, it will be on by midnight in your local area on Friday, Nov. 20.
What is Small Axe about?
The limited series is an anthology of movies featuring some of the best actors the world has to offer. The movies take place between 1969 and 1982, covering a West Indian community in London. Everything is based on real-life experiences, during some of the most difficult times in the city for Black people.
The first movie is titled “Mangrove,” following The Mangrove Nine. During the 1970s, people clashed with the police in London, leading to the first judicial acknowledgment of racism within the Metropolitan Police. It could help to change everything, but would it really?
Letitia Wright, John Boyega, Malachi Kirby, Shaun Parkes, and Rochenda Sandall star in the individual mini-movies.
