Doctor Who is not on Amazon Prime Video for free anymore. HBO Max got exclusive streaming rights to the series, meaning Amazon lost them ahead of Season 12. It was certainly some disappointing news to get.
The classic series has never been on Amazon Prime Video for free. You’ll need BritBox for them, which you can get with Amazon Channels. Of course, not every single episode is there as the BBC got rid of some of the older episodes not realizing how popular the show would become (and because archiving was done very differently in the 1960s).

The good news is that while you can’t stream the episodes for free, you can buy Doctor Who on Digital through Amazon Video.
It’s possible to get the episodes individually or as a season pass. It’s up to you how you do it. Some seasons are possible to follow the monster of the week format, so you can get the individual episodes. However, I’d get the full seasons because there’s some excellent character development across the board.

As we see all the time, streaming rights change. HBO Max isn’t going to keep the rights forever, and when that contract isn’t renewed, there’s a chance Amazon Prime Video will get the show back.
