Could The Third Day Season 2 happen on HBO?
We’ve spent six episodes following the story of Sam and Helen, who both found themselves on Osea Island at different times of the year on The Third Day. Will HBO renew the series for a second season?
The first season gave us three episodes per season. In the summer, Sam found himself on the island for three days without any phone signal. The island was getting ready for a festival, and every time he tried to cross back to the mainland, the causeway was closed. In winter, Helen headed there with her daughters and quickly found herself in the middle of island trouble.

It was certainly a twisty tale that kept us on our toes until the very end. We didn’t know if either Sam or Helen would get off the island. Even the ending didn’t answer all our burning questions. So, will there be a second season?
The Third Day is billed as a miniseries
It’s unlikely there will be a second season. The Third Day was billed a miniseries in the UK. We have six episodes (and the live experience that dropped) to tell the tale. That’s it. It’s not fully up to HBO to renew the show, as the series is a Sky Atlantic series in the UK.
Sure, it’s not uncommon for miniseries to be extended. We just have to look at Big Little Lies on HBO and The Great on Hulu, but The Third Day probably won’t follow suit. It just didn’t get the same attention that the two other shows got from audiences, despite the high profile names attached to the project.
Limited series are good for gaining high caliber stars. They don’t feel weighed down by future seasons of a show, so they’re more likely to do TV. Longer seasons means they can’t do as much theater or as many movies as they’d like. A miniseries gives them the best of both worlds.
