1. Blade of the Immortal (Amazon Original)

Episodes: 24

Blade of the Immortal originally aired as a 13-episode series back in 2008, it was then turned into a live-action movie and released in 2017. The remake has 24 episodes and is an ONA (Original Net Anime). There was much excitement around this remake of Blade of the Immortal as the original anime series was not that popular. Most fans thought it was too short and more could have been added in terms of the storyline.

Manji is an immortal samurai with no other special traits besides being immortal. Manji is cursed by a witch and eventually comes to an agreement with said witch to kill one thousand evildoers, in turn, getting his mortality back.

The great thing about this anime is that the main protagonist is not all-powerful. His skills as a samurai are just above average which makes this series all the more enjoyable. Blood and gore are in abundance but not the highlight of the show. His journey further develops after he meets Rin, the daughter of a samurai who was killed by power-hungry ronin and seeks to avenge her father’s death by hiring Manji.

During their journey, the duo starts to rely more on one another as they trek across Japan with the hope that they can indeed both accomplish their goals.

Seasoned anime viewers would be pleased to know that this particular series comes out of the studios of LIDENFILMS, which is responsible for anime such as Berserk and Terraformars.

2. Vinland Saga Season1

Episodes: 24

This series was a good watch. It started off slow at first, thinking it was going to drag on until the second half of Season 1 but that thought was quickly removed. If you’re a fan of action and adventure then this an anime to add to the viewing list.

The story follows Thorfinn and his quest to avenge his father’s death. Although it seems like your typical storyline there is a plot twist early on in the series. We are not going to spoil it but there are some sad moments in the show.

The pace of the series is fantastic and leaves you wanting more after each episode. There are also historical elements which include, the Vikings and English soldiers who are at war with one another dating back to the early 1600s.

If Vikings, gore, violence, and action are your thing then this is one anime series that should be watched with urgency.
