Amazon has officially greenlit the adaptation of A League of Their Own
A League of Their Own adaptation has been in development since 2018. Amazon has now officially greenlit the series.
According to Deadline, the series will be a reimagining of the 1992 movie. Abbi Jacobson and Will Graham will create the series, with Jacobson also starring.
By reimagining the Penny Marshall movie, the show will be able to go into more detail and offer more character development. It will still be about the real-life All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, highlighting struggles, successes, and fighting against the social expectations at the time.
An hour-long drama on Amazon Prime Video
Rather than a film, A League of Their Own on Amazon will be a TV show. Each episode will be about an hour long, although there isn’t a confirmation on the number of episodes that have been confirmed.
This is a story focused on race and sexuality. It’s a look at a new ensemble of characters carving out their own path, following their dreams within the League and in their personal lives. It’s certainly going to be a series for the current time.
A League of Their Own cast
So far, a small number of actresses have been linked to the show. Jacobson will play one of the lead roles, with Chanté Adams co-leading. The rest of the case is made up of some exciting names, including The Good Place‘s D’Arcy Carden, Vida‘s Roberta Colindrez, and Killjoys‘s Kelly McCormack. Gbemisola Ikumelo and Priscilla Delgado will also make up the ensemble cast.
Molly Ephraim, Kate Berlant and Melanie Field are all set to be recurring guest stars on the series.
The show has only just been greenlit after spending two years in development. There’s no word on when it will be on Amazon Prime Video yet, but we’re probably looking at late 2021 or 2022 at the earliest.
