There’s no doubt that Absentia Season 4 has to happen on Amazon Prime Video

Absentia Season 3 was only released on Amazon Prime Video last month. We’ve already binge-watched it not once but twice (and maybe even three times). There’s no doubt that Absentia Season 4 has to happen.

This is a show that is excellently written. It’s smart, caring, and thrilling. We need more of these types of shows.

More from Amazon Originals

The show isn’t just about giving us a strong female. After all, there are plenty of shows that offer female leads who get themselves out of danger because the men in their lives can’t do it. Absentia focuses on a woman who is determined and can prevail the worst but hasn’t lost her humanity or her love for her family.

Emily Byrne is one of those characters that has her flaws but also has her strengths. Her flaws make her relatable, while her strengths give us something to admire and inspire us.

It’s not all about Emily

Let’s be honest, while the show started to be about Emily, there are other characters that we’ve come to know and love. Of course, there’s Nick who holds the guilt for not searching for Emily. We came to care for him as he found himself struggling to manage his new life and his old life. This wasn’t a guy who just gave up and happily moved on after presuming Emily dead. He mourned for years, and still did even when he was married to Alice.

Speaking of Alice, over two years we watched her story unfold. She was loyal, even if it wasn’t to the people we hoped she would be loyal to. In the end, she did choose the people we hoped she would, only to be taken out before of it.

That woman who killed Alice was Julianne Gunnarson, who was determined and career-orientated. She has been able to offer us a different personality to Emily, someone who is methodical and focused. Of course, now we know which side she is really on and the fears she harbors deep down.

There’s Canto, Crowne, and even Cal. All these characters stand out for a variety of reasons. They’re well-developed, even when they only show up for half or two-thirds of a season. They remain important to the plot, offering people we know Emily can rely on and trust.

Caution: we’re getting into major spoilers at this point if you haven’t seen the Absentia Season 3 finale yet.

There’s plenty of storylines for Absentia Season 4

With the way Absentia Season 3 ended, there’s absolutely no way that we can just leave things like this. Absentia Season 4 is needed. There are just too many story threads left open.

For one, we have Nick and Flynn who are in hiding. Emily isn’t allowed to see them for their own safety. She’s sacrificed her family for their own lives, knowing that Meridian is still out there somewhere, looking for revenge. Flynn didn’t fight back like many teenagers would (and I love that the writers have made him mature, kind, and brave), but instead just asked whether he’d see his mom again. It was a heartbreaking moment, knowing that it might never happen.

And yet, it needs to happen. Emily spent six years before the series started separated from Flynn. She missed out on so much. After everything she’s done since, she and Flynn deserve that time together.

But Emily is currently on another mission. Cal knows where she is, but not what she is up to. We have no idea who she is working for or who she is after, but something suggests that this is all connected to Meridian.

After all, Meridian is out there. Gunnarson was just another hired gun. Despite being in jail, things aren’t over yet. And there’s definitely something suspicious about Gunnarson’s ex-girlfriend being at the jail.

With all these story threads open, there’s definitely no shortage of storylines to follow. Considering the strength of this writing team, there’s material for another thrilling season. Absentia Season 3 is the best so far, but Absentia Season 4 could definitely top it. That I have no doubts.
