Absentia Season 3, Episode 9 recap: Flynn protects his family
Everything that happened on the penultimate episode of Absentia Season 3
Absentia Season 3 has been an exceptional season, and the penultimate episode certainly doesn’t disappoint. We get to see some major character growth in Flynn, while Cal proves that he wasn’t the mole…well, we don’t think so!
We pick up straight off the back of the previous episode, which ended with Dawkins following Jack to Warren’s farm. Flynn remembers the hatch to the crawl space, so uses it just before Dawkins checks the closet he was hiding in. Unfortunately, he pulls something into the space with him, so it’s clear where he’s gone.
Just as it looks like Dawkins might grab Flynn, Jack fights back. Flynn is able to get away but Jack is shot in the gut for that.
Flynn does everything he can to protect his family
Don’t worry! Nobody is dying in this episode, except the villain! While Warren helps to stop Jack bleeding out, Flynn is able to take care of Dawkins. He uses the bow and arrow to injure Dawkins and then lead him to the perfect spot on the land. Dawkins falls through the old and covered well Warren warned Flynn about.
It’s just in time. When Emily (we’ll get to how she got there) phones Dawkins, Flynn is the one to answer. Emily is relieved to hear that her family is safe. Warren and Flynn can get help for Jack.

Meanwhile, Cal can just watch while Emily is tortured for information about where the files are. Armstrong is the torturer, which involves hammering a nail into Emily’s hand.
She’s not willing to talk, though. Unfortunately, Cal doesn’t get a chance to rescue her because he’s called to help with dealing with those explosions. Everyone still thinks that he’s one of the guards.
Eventually, Cal gets away and is able to find Armstrong in private. It’s just what he needs to kill Armstrong, getting his revenge for all those years ago. Based on the things Armstrong said, there’s no way that Cal is working for Meridian. He simply can’t be the mole.
This gives Cal a chance to rescue Emily, who definitely does not need a man to save her. She’d already got out of her restraints and pulled the nail out of her hand and had found her way to Elliot. That’s when she finds out Dawkins has her family, but she finds out that Flynn has taken care of that problem.
Just as it looks like Elliot is going to inject Emily with whatever he has in a vial (he says he’s working on a cure), Emily snaps around and injects Elliot with it instead. Elliot says something about “she already has the bio-agent” and then dies.
Emily doesn’t seem to pick up on that. Remember there’s still an episode to go, so we’ll find out!
Nick gets the refugees out
While all this was going on, Nick was busy rescuing the refugees. He got the first batch out only to find out the kid’s mom wasn’t there. So, he went back and found two women hiding in a doorway.
Nick quickly got them out and reunited mother and son. Now it was time to get to Emily.
As he was getting into the compound, Interpol was around to arrest everyone there. Nick gets to Elliot’s office as Emily puts the drive for the files into the computer. Nick has the password and uses it so they can see the information. There’s way too much to work through. They need to take it back to the FBI.
Interpol arrives and arrests them. Of course, they have to not knowing who the FBI agents are. That will be something quick to clear up.
Proof of the mole?
Finally, we have to touch on the FBI mole storyline, which revealed at the end of the previous episode that Webb was the mole. Crowne and Gunnarson get evidence of that, which they find thanks to a connection Gunnarson has. It’s enough to bring him in, but when they get to his hotel room, he’s hanged himself.
Something feels iffy about this. Webb didn’t even know the two were onto him. Did he really hang himself or did someone else do it to make it look like he regretted his actions?
