Absentia Season 3, Episode 8 recap: Cal has his own plans
Cal needs to survive and the mole is uncovered on Absentia Season 3, Episode 8
I thought it was too obvious for Cal to be the mole. The death of Thompson in the previous episode proved that it couldn’t be him. Absentia Season 3, Episode 8 didn’t give Crowne and Gunnarson much of a setback thanks to a call from Nick.
After escaping the facility, Nick made one important phone call. He needed to let his son know that he was alive and with Emily. During that call, Nick made it clear that he couldn’t come home right away.

Meanwhile, Cal needed to figure out what to do next. He’d made it to the van that Nick was held in, but Emily and Nick were already gone. Another truck pulled up and Cal pretended to have been one of the men in the vehicle at the time of the crash. He was wearing the uniform after all. That gave him the chance to get to the new compound, which was also being closed down.
Back in the U.S., Crowne and Gunnarson were back to square one. It wasn’t for long, though.
Crowne figures out the mole
Nick needs to help get the parents of the refugee kids he found. It’s a promise he made in the previous episode. But he needs some backup, and he needs to know how long it will take the FBI to get there after the previous call.
Nick and Emily decide Crowne is the best person to trust. They interrupt him mid-speech about Thompson, which is when Nick learns that Thompson has been killed. He manages to give Crowne his location, but it also gives Crowne a way to find out the source.
Who has been in the building when the files were leaked and when Thompson got the call? It’s Deputy Director Webb. Why is it always the deputy directors?
Cal goes on his own mission
After being left behind by Emily, Cal needs to figure out a way home. When he’s taken to the new compound, he’s driven by another mission. He wants to kill Anderson, his former chief.
While everyone is packing up the camp, Cal looks around for Anderson. He comes across the server from the train, who is a guard at the compound. He has no choice but to kill the guard, which others eventually find. However, Cal has enough time to get to Anderson.
Just as it looks like Cal will kill his former chief, there’s an explosion. Who could have done that?
Emily and Nick storm the compound
Of course, it’s Emily and Nick, with the help of the refugee kids. Nick and Emily, after finding a fresh mass grave, know that the refugees in the camp will be killed. Meridian will need to get rid of all evidence, which included the nurse.
That’s exactly what Meridian is doing. So, the duo go in looking for the boss, who turns out to be Elliot from the charity event that Emily came across. It’s Emily who has led to the Austrian locations being closed down.
Nick and Emily are separated, but Emily works her way into the heart of the compound, where she comes face-to-face with Elliot. Seeing Cal just behind him throws her off, giving a guard enough time to knock Emily out.
The good news is Cal isn’t the mole. Also, nobody knows that Cal is even there or that Nick is somewhere else in the compound—currently on the hunt for the refugees. So, at least there’s someone around to help Emily.
