The five questions the Penny Dreadful: City of Angels Season 1 finale left

There is absolutely no doubt that Penny Dreadful: City of Angels Season 2 is necessary. Right now, we don’t know if it will happen, but the ending to the Season 1 finale left so many questions. It left us still on the brink of disaster.

We said goodbye to a few questions. Some weren’t surprising goodbyes, while others were heartbreaking. However, all these goodbyes led to a shift within characters on the series.

These are my five big questions for Penny Dreadful: City of Angels after that Season 1 finale.

Can Adelaide hold any power now?

The finale saw Sister Molly take her own life. Despite her belief in God, it was Santa Muerte she saw, possibly indicating that she felt more connected to the Mexican way of life and culture than her own.

Adelaide was distraught at the loss of her daughter, but was it more about the loss of power? Without Molly, there is no Temple. Without the Temple, Adelaide has little power within Los Angeles. What is next for this hateful woman?

Is the Vega family back on the same page?

It looked like there was hope for the Vega family during the penultimate episode. Rio hated the fact that the entire family was together, a hint that together they can bring Magda down. However, Mateo switched back to the Pachucos.

He watched as Rio killed Fly Rico. He stood by as the people started rioting. While he saved his brother, it wasn’t to run off with Tiago. It was to say goodbye.

Yet, Mateo was back with his family for the Day of the Dead celebrations. There didn’t seem to be any hatred between Mateo and Tiago. So, is the family back on the same page?

Will Craft give into the Nazi hatred?

Craft’s storyline has been one of the more confusing ones. It’s been completely separate to everything else, except for Maria’s presence as the housekeeper. However, it looks like he’ll be more important during Penny Dreadful: City of Angels Season 2.

Elsa made it clear that she is on Hitler’s side. She wants to be strong. And while Craft doesn’t want his sons to grow up hateful, he does want them to be strong at the same time. We were left with Craft putting on his medal and doing the Nazi salute but his heart wasn’t in it. Will he be the weak link for Elsa, leading to her manipulating the children instead?

And what about Linda? We left her in the asylum, but she made it clear that she would be back with a vengeance. Will that happen in Season 2?

What’s next for Councilman Townsend and the Nazis?

Townsend got the path of the freeway that he wanted. Tiago pointed out that the freeways aren’t roads. They’re walls to segregate everyone. Racism is alive and well in the city of Los Angeles, and it’s going to take Tiago, Lewis, and many others to fight back.

But what will Townsend do next? He clearly wants to build another road. He also wants to become mayor. But is that it? Is there more to his plans, and if so, how do those plans involve the Nazis and Adelaide?

Will Tiago allow Magda to manipulate him?

The ending to the Penny Dreadful: City of Angels Season 1 finale saw Tiago at his father’s grave. We’d hoped Santa Muerte would be there, but it was Magda placing a hand on him. She is ready to sink her claws into him now.

The death of Molly has weakened him. Up to this point, he has made some questionable choices, but he’s always want to do what’s right. He hated himself for setting Diego up for the fall, especially when it meant the police lynching him. However, the Third Reich is growing in power and Magda’s prophecy hasn’t come true yet.

Now that Raul and Mateo have been manipulated, it’s time for Tiago to turn. Will he be able to fight back?
