Penny Dreadful: City of Angels takes the concept of the Penny Dreadful to Los Angeles. We’re moving from the late 19th century to 1938, just on the brink of World War II. While the threat of the Nazis loom, tensions rise between the Americans and the American-Mexicans, and there’s one LAPD detective who finds himself caught in the middle.
The big point of conflict for the premiere episode is the first freeway in California. LAPD Detective Tiago Vega’s brother, Raul, battles with Councilman Charlton Townsend over the freeway, and you know things are going to get dicey.
What we can’t figure out is who Natalie Dormer’s character is supposed to be. Is she the devil? Is she something more? That’s what we’re most excited to find out!
