The Lighthouse is filmed in black and white but it’s a 2019 movie. Starring Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson, it’s an excellent tale of human nature and psychology. Fans of The Witch will most definitely want to check it out. After all, Robert Eggers is the mastermind behind both of these excellent psychological thrillers.

Set in the 19th century, The Lighthouse follows Ephraim Winslow, who takes a job that involves being on an isolated island for four weeks. He’s working with Thomas Wake, an irritable elderly man who is his only company for those four weeks. We get a look at the effect isolation can have on the mind. However, are the visions just hallucinations or are they real?

Critics and audiences love the movie, with critics loving it the most. It is rated Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with a 90% critics score. While slightly lower, audiences still enjoyed it, rating it with a 72% approval rating.
