What makes Troop Zero so special? How about the story and the message that it sends? This is an underdog, offering a tale of a young girl with a dream. That dream sounds crazy for the 1970s, especially in the rural south. But Christmas won’t let anyone tell her that her dream isn’t possible. She will communicate with aliens in space.
After hearing that NASA is giving winners of a competition the chance to work with them, she sees her chance. The problem is she can’t join a current team. So, she puts together her own team of ragtag members, mostly those looked down on in the town. The unlikely friends form a bond that will never be broken.
Audiences certainly agree. While critics score it 67% on Rotten Tomatoes, the audience is much more excited about it, seeing the message and the entertaining storyline. It holds an 82% score right now from the audience.
