There are some excellent DVD and Blu-ray releases happening this week. Jan. 14 sees Maleficent 2 come to home video, along with thrilling rides, awesome comedies, and TV shows that you’ll want to catch up on.

Let’s start with the sequel that offers a look at our Sleeping Beauty villain. Stories aren’t black and white. There’s something that turns people into the big villains of a story. And in the majority of cases, they’re the heroes of their own stories; the heroes of our stories being the villains.

Angelina Jolie returns as Maleficient in Maleficient: Mistress of Evil. Elle Fanning returns as Aurora, who is grown up and has found her love. Maleficient is worried about her goddaughter’s fate and falls back into old patterns to “protect” her.

Code 8

Ready for a superhero movie with a twist. In fact, the heroes aren’t really the heroes in this. Cousins Robbie Amell and Stephen Amell team up in Code 8, set in a world where those with powers are kept in poverty. Naturally, that leads to dissent, and soon a group of people with powers decides its time to do something about their lives.

The group gets involved in a dangerous journey of a life of crime. However, is Connor Reed willing to risk everything just to help pay for his sick mother’s medical issues?

Veep Season 7

The HBO series Veep came to an end in 2019. It was a hilarious season for the political satire, and now you get to own it on DVD and Blu-ray. You can grab just the seventh season on its own or the complete series if you missed DVDs or you never bothered to buy until the series had finished.

Selina needs to evaluate the campaigns of the past and present, while Amy has an important decision to make. Meanwhile, Jonah’s personal life is now in the press, causing havoc everywhere else.

Gemini Man

Love Will Smith? You’ll be happy to hear that Gemini Man is now available on DVD and Blu-ray. Smith’s character is trying to stay on top of the hitman game, but his age is starting to show. To make it harder for him, he’s put up against his worst enemy: a younger clone of himself.

He’ll need to prove his worth throughout the movie, fighting for his own existence. Is it time to retire and let the younger clone take over?

Line of Duty Season 5

Line of Duty fans will be happy to hear that the fifth season is available on DVD and Blu-ray on Jan. 14.  This season is just as good as all the rest.

AC-12 is dealing with the most destructive adversary ever faced. It’s all going to get worse before it gets better, as the body count rises to an alarming level. Will they be able to get to the bottom of it?
