Leslie Mann joins Amazon’s sci-fi thriller The Power
Leslie Mann has landed her first major TV role. She’s joining Amazon’s sci-fi thriller, The Power, based on the novel by Naomi Alderman.
Amazon continues with book adaptations, with The Power one of the more recent ones to get optioned. The show is now building its cast, with Leslie Mann taking on one of the political roles in the story, according to Deadline.
Based on the novel of the same name by Naomi Alderman, the series will tell the story over 10 episodes. It marks Mann’s first major TV role, and she’s set to lead as Margot Cleary-Lopez. As a politician, Margot will make you think that she’s a doting mother and wife, but there’s more to her under the surface. It’s soon clear that she’s incredibly smart and knows how to work her way into authority. Along the way there will be hurt and betrayal.

For those who know nothing about The Power, Alderman’s novel is a feminist sci-fi book. The author is adapting the script for the pilot episode, helping to set the stage and bring in elements of her own novel and even adapt parts that she may feel are necessary. She’s also got an all-female writer’s room, which is important for the story.
In The Power, all teenage girls develop the power to electrocute people at will. Every girl will get this power, and they even help older women figure out how to awaken the power inside.
While Margot is one of the lead roles, The Power will also follow Allie, Roxy, and Tunde. They all come from different walks of life, but all deal with opening their power and learning more about it and themselves.
It’s certainly a book to check out while waiting for more cast members to join the series. You can get it on Amazon right now. You can currently see Mann in Motherless Brooklyn.
